How Do Clear Braces Work?
Similar to traditional orthodontic appliances, clear braces use brackets and wires to shift teeth into proper alignment. Dr. Quintanal will begin by bonding each of the brackets onto the front of your teeth. An archwire is then threaded through the brackets so that an appropriate amount of pressure is continually being placed on your teeth, causing them to move. Elastic bands are then fitted around each bracket so that the archwire remains in place.
Some patients require rubber bands to help with the shifting of their teeth; however, this is determined on a case-by-case basis.
When choosing to wear clear braces, you can expect your treatment time to last a few months or a few years. This is largely dependent on the severity of your situation, so no two time frames are alike. However, during your initial consultation, you can expect Dr. Quintanal to go over the length of treatment and what you can expect while wearing your clear braces.
Benefits of Clear Braces
Clear braces are often preferred among teens and adults because of their discreet appearance, but that is not the only reason so many people choose them to achieve a straighter smile. Other added benefits include:
- Stability: Clear braces can withstand normal chewing and biting, so eating most foods is acceptable. You should, however, stay away from hard, sticky foods, as these can cause any kind of orthodontic appliance to break.
- Less Bulky: Traditional metal brackets and wires can protrude and rub against soft oral tissues; however, clear braces are less bulky. This means that brackets lay flatter against teeth, so there is less irritation.
- Same Great Results: You don’t have to worry about lackluster results because clear and ceramic braces are known to produce the same great outcomes as regular braces. At the end of treatment, you can expect your teeth to appear in proper alignment.
- Available for Teens & Adults: Both teenagers and adults can inquire about undergoing orthodontic treatment with clear braces, making it an ideal option for anyone who might be self-conscious about their appearance.
